Home Today

We came home today at about 1:00 p.m. The pain medication Cindy is on seems to be working better than what she had in the hospital. She pretty much has slept the entire time. She has started to eat and drink a little and even watched about 10 minutes of TV before she got sleepy again.

The doctor said today to expect a splint for a week then a hard fiberglass cast for about 5 weeks. After that she would be in a boot and start some weight bearing activity about 6 weeks if everything looks good. It will definitely be an adjustment, but we will get through it.

I keep telling everyone that life could be a whole lot worse and there are many people in much worse situations in their life.

Thanks for all of your prayers, calls, flowers, and everything else. I will do my best to keep things updated.

In Our Room Loving The Morphine

We have been in our room for over an hour now and Cindy has figured out how to work the morphine pump. She is a smart girl. We will need to stay overnight which is probably a good thing.

Doctor said there was a small piece of cartiledge that was sheared off probably during the injury. It will probably not give her much trouble as the missing cartiledge was near the non weight bearing portion of the ankle. She also had a very short achilles tendon that was preventing the ankle from flexing to 90 degrees. He lengthened the achilles tendon with a piece of the soleus muscle from deep in hear calf area.

She will be in a splint for a week. Stitches will come out and then will be in a hard cast for about 4 weeks. After 4 weeks she will be in a boot after that for an undetermined length of time until she can start putting weight on her leg.

We should be home by noon tomorrow.

If you were considering visiting, I don't think she would know it. I told her a while ago that I was Brad Pitt and she said you were really good in "Meet Joe Black." She then went back to sleep. (Ha! Ha!)

Just got out of surgery

Cindy just got out of surgery and is in recovery for about an hour. She will move back down to her room after she gets out of recovery. She had a little bit of cartlige damage toward the back of her ankle, it was about the size of the docters pinky nail not enough to damage anything major.

3:50 p.m. Not out of Surgery Yet

Still in surgery as of 3:50 p.m.

Just went to surgery!

Cindy just went into surgery around 2:30. They said that the surgery will last about 45 minutes to an hour. Thanks for all of your prayers she is doing great.

No Surgery Yet

1:45 p.m. Have not gone to surgery yet.

Cindy's Surgery

Cindy has been admitted to Covenant Lakeside and will have surgery sometime this afternoon probably closer to 2:00 p.m.

Dr. Ken Stephenson will be doing the surgery and has said that the surgery looks pretty routine. The ankle is fractured in two places and Cindy will have a plate and some screws that will probably be permanent. She will get to set the alarms off in the airport the rest of her life.

When the surgery is over I will let everyone know how things turn out.
